We were standing on the side of the road.

We were 20-ish kilometres out of Taupo, heading down to do a couple of dives in the lake.
And to visit Scenic Cellars.  Yes, it is a destination in its own right.

Anywhoo, the 4WD has decided it does not want to run anymore.
So we have stopped and we are waiting for the AA Service Man to arrive.
He said he could be an hour.

Now, some years back, I would have been seeing red and breathing hard and getting pretty antsy because things were not going my way.
Even though I could have done nothing to change the situation, I would still have been pretty pissy.

Today I find that the sun is shining, I’m with one of my best friends, and if that is not enough – we have a board game, crackers and hummus and water.
It would have been nice to have gone for a relaxing dive or two in the lake.  Just mucking around, having a look at the trout and doing some drills in our twinsets.
Scuba diving teaches you quite a few things.  The least of these is patience and that some days are just not the right days to dive.  When it is right, its right but when its starting to go a little bit pear-shaped, us divers remember that there will be another day to dive.

I feel quite happy in reminding myself that I am not that shitty cow I used to be.

I remind myself and smile – because things could always be worse.
