Today is Wednesday and its our Day Seven on the Whole 30.  We have got through the first week relatively unscathed with no cheating.

Actually I lie, I cheated. Once. Today.
I used the scales.  And I’m happy I did.

But back to our week. On Day Zero, I treated myself – to lunch with some of my workmates at a Vietnamese restaurant in town. Fresh, crisp – it was amazing. And it was probably then that I got truly excited about eating fresh, eating whole.

After we went through the cupboards and the fridge/freezer, we went shopping. The bench top was full of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and a few items for the pantry. I thought we had done really well with the planning – little did I know it would disappear so quickly!

We had a “Cook Up Session” the night before Day One and it definitely helped with lunches for the rest of the week.

We’ve been pretty confident in our cooking and meal choices. I think that starting the Whole 30 during the New Zealand summer helps. The range of fresh produce is wonderful and meals can be light and still be filling.

I haven’t done a very good job of keeping a food diary however there are a few things that I have noticed.
In the evenings, I’m tired. Proper “I’ve had a busy day” tired and I can go straight to sleep.
I was a wee bit cranky on Days 4 and 5 but that seems to have gone now.
And I feel awake (during the day – obviously not later at night!). All in all – I feel great!

Ken has noticed some real benefits too – especially regarding the amount of insulin he needs each day.  I’ll try and talk him into writing an update in his own post.

Our biggest challenge coming up is going away for a few days.  We’re taking off to the beach so over the next couple of days, we’ll need to write a meal plan and do a bit of prep and make sure we pack what we need.

If you are Whole 30-ing, I hope its going well for you too!
