I love having a squizz in other photographers camera bags. Not just at their beautiful glass but all the weird and wonderful things that end up in there as well. So I thought I would do a little post ..

What’s in My Camera Bag?

The contents of my bag changes a little based on where it and I are going – and sometimes my kit stretches out of the bag itself and I have to take other cases.  I try not to though, I find as my photography develops, I like to take less gear and more ideas and work with just what I have on me.  And this applies to squeakers and treats and the like too – I can make tons of noises so I don’t have to carry an extra bag with balls and peanut butter and frisbees, towels and wipes!

For both my Underwater Photography and Pet Photography I have a checklist sitting on the inside of the studio door that I go through and check off the day before and day of to make sure I have absolutely everything I need – as well as the bits I think I ‘might’ need. It also reminds me to charge things like my camera battery and clear my memory cards.

Nikon Camera Bodies

Nikon D800E and Nikon D300 DSLR Bodies
The D800E makes a huge difference to the photographs that I like to make with pets. More eyes, more bobble heads and it feels like, more colour.  Additional battery grip because .. well more battery and I like the feel of it for portrait shots.
The D300 isn’t going anywhere because whilst its nice to have a second body and I am yet to upgrade my wide lenses to FX format, it has a special underwater housing. And its special in its own right.
The Pentax Asahi is purely for the joy of film.

Nikon, Sigma and Tokina Lenses

Lenses
From front left to right …

  • Lens Baby Muse – a little creative treat when focus is boring
  • Nikon 60mm f/2.8 – my second favourite and starting to get a little more use – aside from macro underwater
  • Tokina 10-17mm fisheye – wide angle lens used most often underwater (and sometimes when I want to photograph ALL of a room)
  • Sigma 70-200m f/2.8 – telephoto, great for action and giving pets a bit of extra room to explore
  • Nikon 50mm f/1.8 – This lens creates bobble head magic!
  • Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 – Pet Photography Tools and extras

Additional Lighting Equipment

  • Nikon SBS700 Speedlight
  • Inflatable softbox for the speedlight (inflatable – brilliant idea!)
  • Small silver/gold reflector – often mistaken for a frisbee my some of the doggies

Miscellaneous Photography Items

  • Lens cleaners, air cleaner
  • Trigger trap cable
  • Remote Shutter Cable
  • Memory cards, memory cards, more memory cards and an Eye-Fi WIFI SD card (for sneak peeks)
  • Note book with shot list for the session

And the bits for the Dogs:

  • Dried Venison, Green Tripe and Lamb Lung from Raw Essentials
  • Squeaky Toys – Baz the Dinosaur, The Green Monster
