Last week was the beginning of 2011’s Spring Clean.
I got a cleaner in to help me with a big clean of the kitchen. Â The thing about spring sunshine … it shows up even more cobwebs and some marks on the walls that I’d missed!
The house feels lighter and I feel better. Â And the next task on my list is to do a wardrobe (shoe) cleanout and to get rid of a few of those clothes I was hanging on to “just in case”
Being More Organised
In the spirit of the Spring Clean, I’ve ‘archived’ my old diary which was just stuffed full of notes that I never used and lists that I never actioned.
I’ve tidied my office and made it more workable which I am really happy about. Â But I really don’t like my kitchen. Â Well especially the cupboards.
They will be the next thing that is cleaned out and gone through. Â However the lack of bench and cupboard space (and a dishwasher) is frustrating me.
Maybe – after 3.5 years – its time to think of moving?
Something off the Bucket List
I’ve knocked another item off my Bucket List!
On Saturday morning, Katherine and I went out to Albany and completed our Basic Motorcycle Handling Certificates with Rider Training.
There was a series of tests that we had to complete and Steve and Mike were fantastic as instructors.
Dawn thought it was hell of a funny that we had not actually met each other until that morning – but had talked on Twitter and decided to do this course together. Â She ran around with a camera and I got Steve to take a few of us as well.
The team at Rider Training made the morning a lot of fun.
It was also a lot easier to learn to ride than I expected! Â Steve showed me a couple of very basic things and then added little bit after little bit after little bit.
His training style reminded me of how I teach Scuba Diving! Â (Hope my students enjoy my courses as much as I enjoyed his).
Eating
I got fat over winter so I have kicked back in to eating.
I know that sounds backwards – but it works!! Â My calorie intake had dropped so low and I paid so little attention to my body that I gained 6 kilograms without realising!
I’m back using My Fitness Pal app on my iPhone (and the web tool). Â My little friend keeps telling me to eat more … which I am trying to do!!
I’ve kept it up for a week and have had a good result so I will bank that little success and keep on trucking.
Teaching
I’m all excited as I have a PADI Open Water course this weekend.
I’ll be spending Saturday and Sunday teaching scuba diving to a group from a school here in Auckland.
Its been a few months since I did a Open Water class. Â As the course is booked for Saturday and Sunday, we will be doing theory in the morning and pool sessions in the afternoon. Â Intense! Â But great all the same.
We’ll have to get through World Cup traffic on Saturday afternoon so I’ll be finding a way around that.
And on a final note :
I love that you have started your spring cleaning. I really need to start mine. I made a half-hearted attempt by cleaning two draws in the kitchen. I still need to do the “dreaded draw” and also the utensil draw. Then I will start on the cupboards….and then the rest of the house. Our garden looks bad as well and needs some love for our summer garden.
I have also been selling things on Trade Me. To be honest it’s really not so much about making money (although that is nice and a good way to fund my BOOK addiction) but rather moving on things we no longer need/use. The bulk of the stuff has been sold and the stragglers probably just need to be sent to good will.
In terms of the weight thing….well you know what’s going on there for me. But yes, if you don’t eat enough you gain. I have found that I know what to do, but I need to be extremely organised and plan, plan, plan. When I don’t then that’s when things fall over.
I loved your photos of the fireworks. I think I actually prefer beautiful photos than seeing/hearing the fireworks themselves.
Oooh yes – the spring cleaning has only just started! But it feels good doesn't it?
I haven't thought about selling anything yet. I have to get in and get rid of the clothes worthy of donations and then I'll see what piles up after that.
I'm following your progress Ness! And reading your blog xxx
I dont think you could ever understand hoe proud I am of you …that takes so much committment & guts – well done darling go for it xxx
