Whilst we aren’t actually on a Retreat, I’ve decided to take this massive mother nature reset as positively as possible.
And like most other bloggers and photographers in New Zealand, I’m searching for a creative outlet. And that dear blog, is you.
The spread of coronavirus around the world is just surreal. It’s also fucking scary. Being down here at the bottom of the Southern Hemisphere, we often think that we are so far away from the rest of the world, that things take a long time to arrive when we order them online from overseas however now, March 2020 – THAT’S NOT SO BAD!
We have seen the news since the beginning of the year, then starting to ramp up in seriously through February and early March. I am very very very fucking grateful that our government didn’t muck around too much. There were a few of us calling for #closetheborders when it was very obvious from the Director-General of Health, Uncle Dr Ashley Bloomfield, giving his daily midday Health Department addresses that our coronavirus cases were all coming in from travellers.
Our Prime Minister, Jacinda Adern, made her first very formal but very controlled and practical address and the country was shown our national coronavirus alert system on Saturday when we were told we were level 2. We were then escalated to level 3 on a Monday and given two days to prepare for a total level 4 lockdown starting tonight – at 11:59pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020.
So what now? Level 4 means STAY THE FUCK AT HOME. Only go out if you absolutely have to. Stay in your bubble.
My bubble is Ken and the dogs. It’s good that I like my bubble. I fear lots of other people throughout the country are not in anywhere near as good of a situation as I am. We have the basics here in the Zoo House. We live a relatively contained and simple life.
We were already keeping an eye on the situation around the world and had made sure that we had supplies of Ken’s insulin and my bariatric vitamins. I bought some plants for the garden and then wondered, what else did I really need to do?
Ken and I started our Coronvirus Lockdown Retreat on Monday. On Monday morning, we went to Bodyfit Training at our normal time of 5:10am … possibly THE CLEANEST place in Hamilton thanks to the trainers and Ryan and all the members who basically wrapped each other in sanitary wipes and sprayed everything with the vigour of a young actor with a flame thrower. And then at the end of the day, we picked the kids up from Eureka, didn’t hug Tash & Chris (which was fucking weird) and took the extra dog food and a few groceries home to hunker down.
Hamilton City Council closed the council facilities after Sunday – whilst we were at level 2.
And because Ken has T1 diabetes, he is in a risk category so he’s working from home. And thus, I was immediately working from home.
Which isn’t such a stretch for me as I am quite used to it – and quite set up – but I’m not used to WFH coworkers other than the dogs! Who are just baffled.
We are keeping up our routine as much as we can. There’s probably a bit too much device time – but its how we are all communicating at the moment – and Ken is making up daily workouts which are actually quite tough! We are hanging out for the BFT app to be released and that’s partly so we can community workout with our BFT team.
Otherwise – I have work I can carry on with. I have coaching clients who I am still working with (thank goodness for the internet – we are going to be SCREWED if anything goes wrong with it) and I have a coaching group in progress and one starting on Sunday. I also have a list of projects I would like to tackle over the next wee while. including this Retreat diary and a Photo a Day.
I’ve put up a new homepage as I’m obviously not booking or photographing any sessions today or in the near future and I think its a better reflection of where me, Tara the photographer and Tara the New Zealander, is right now.
STAY HOME and take care of you,
